Miles Davis said, 'Play through it... there are two vibes... that vibe on stage and the vibe out there.' Yesterday was the premier performance of my new show VIBE and the vibe itself was amazing. A most special thank you to Rachel Miranda for allowing me the opportunity to 'come home' to Ridge Performing Arts Center and share my passion for arts education and collaboration with a show in my hometown and a collaborative piece between the school's dance department and jazz band choreographed by Jeff Foote. I can't give enough thanks to the artists and tech team who joined me for the day, because without them, my vision would be nothing more than a dream in my notebook. Thank you Charles Renato, Corey Hutchins and Libby Styles for jumping feet first into this body of work with their mind, body and soul. Thank you to Gabriel Vivas, Enoch Smith Jr. and Andrew Atkinson for giving us the music and energy we needed to manifest our artistry. Thank you to Devin Arroyo for being the best stage manager in the universe, and Denise and Dallas for giving us light and sound to be seen and heard. Thank you to my Futurestep Tap Company dancers for always being amazing both in the studio and on the stage. Thank you Karen Callaway Williams for providing inspiration to 40 dancers in her master class before the show. And a big, huge thank you to everyone who supported this body of work both near and afar, from spreading the word, to brainstorms, to car rides, to sandwiches, to good luck texts. My appreciation for your kindness and love knows no bounds.
Up next! We'll be performing an excerpt of VIBE at a dance festival this weekend and then we're taking the show to DC at the Atlas Theater for a collaborative weekend of Deviated Theatre & Hillary-Marie in VIBE/Beyond. Please be sure to follow pages Hillary-Marie and Sole Music Collective to stay updated on all these upcoming and awesome tap happenings.
